EGUsphere – The preprint repository hosted by the European Geosciences Union

EGUsphere, the not-for-profit open scientific repository of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), brings together preprints in the domain of Earth, Space, and Planetary sciences in a diverse, inclusive, and systematic collection of contributions, including:

EGUsphere is transparent and interactive, giving authors of presentations and preprints the opportunity to receive attributed comments from the public aimed at stimulating discussion, cooperation, and to revise their materials in open review.

Abstracts & presentations on EGUsphere

EGUsphere provides a central repository for abstracts accepted and scheduled for presentation at EGU General Assemblies or EGU's topical conference series (e.g., Galileo conferences, Plinius conferences, or Alexander von Humboldt conferences). Starting with the EGU General Assembly 2020, such abstracts have a DOI (digital object identifier). All abstracts are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License (CC BY 4.0). Authors can upload presentation materials alongside their abstract and choose whether the community can comment on these materials. During the conference, authors can decide whether CC BY 4.0 applies to their presentation materials or whether sharing needs to be more limited. EGUsphere only archives presentation materials posted under CC BY 4.0. These materials, as well as the public discussion, remain online and openly accessible.

Preprint options on EGUsphere

EGUsphere provides various options for the community to post preprints, discuss their results online, get feedback from colleagues, revise their manuscripts, and seek full peer review for a possible publication in one of EGU's topical journals. These three different roads for preprints are combined within EGUsphere:

  1. Preprints aimed at publication in an EGU journal
  2. Preprints not immediately targeting journal publication
  3. External preprints seeking publication in an EGU journal
